NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Frustrated employees gathered outside the Registrar General’s Shirley Street office to voice their concerns, prompting fears of a standoff that could impact essential services.

Some of them included delayed promotions and hazardous working conditions.

The Registrar General’s Office  is responsible for registering vital events such as births, marriages, and deaths, issuing corresponding legal certificates, and maintaining accurate records.

For months workers claim the one elevator in the entire building has been out of commission forcing them to climb multiple flights of stairs every day.

They also claim there is mold in the building.

President of the Bahamas Public Services Union Kimsley Ferguson says he has made several attempts to speak to leadership there but according to him, it was unsuccessful.

That said, he has this warning to the government.

Our News attempted to reach out to officials from the Registrar General’s Department but were unsuccessful up to air time.
