USA – United States Republicans securing 218 seats needed to take the majority in Congress.

One week after the mid-terms, the party is holding a razor-thin majority in the House of Representatives, and enough to stall U.S. President Joe Biden’s agenda for the next two years.

Republican leader in the House Kevin McCarthy celebrated the result.

Meanwhile, Democrats will retain control of the Senate.

The new Congress convenes in January. While Republicans are projected to win between 218 and 223 out of the 435 House seats, votes for several cliff-hanger races mean a final result could still be weeks away.
