NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Pandemonium, that’s how residents of the Baillou Hill Road community described the explosion which occurred at a home and restaurant, leaving the community stunned.

According to fire officials, the incident happened while a gas truck was conducting a refill. Police reported that nine people were injured, including two children. They were all transported to the hospital.

Nearby homes and businesses also sustained damage, with shattered windows and lights knocked out.

When Our News team arrived, the area was cordoned off as fire crews conducted their initial investigation. Spectators described the scene as something out of a movie, with glass and debris scattered everywhere.

The gas truck involved in the explosion remained on-site, police confirmed that the truck driver and a passenger were among the injured.

One resident, Alexandria Arthur, who did not want to be seen on camera lives next door in an apartment that sustained damage. She described the frightening moment as she heard a crashing sound.

Another man, says his sister and niece lived in the building that exploded, he expressed relief that there were no fatalities.

Eyewitness, Israel Johnson described what he saw.

Two nearby residents who often visit the restaurant in the building that exploded, came to lend support. One expressed concern about safety after learning the explosion resulted from a gas refill.
