NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Just two days into the official start of summer, the Ministry of Health and Wellness, in partnership with the Department of Meteorology, has issued an advisory warning the public about soaring heat index levels expected this week.

With temperatures predicted to climb to a sizzling ninety degrees, many Bahamians are turning to tried-and-true methods to stay cool. Senior resident Moses Hepburn says he has a foolproof strategy that’s simple but effective.

“I stay in the house and enjoy the air condition.”

It’s a chorus echoed by many across the country, as air conditioning has quickly shifted from being a household luxury to an everyday necessity in the fight against the heat.

“Most days it’s bearable but some days it’s extremely hot and definitely feels like it’s at least ninety degrees.”
