NASSAU, BAHAMAS – On National Pride Day, Bahamians across the country are reflecting on what makes them proud to call these islands home.

Whether they’re from Grand Bahama, Abaco, or the heart of New Providence, Bahamians are never shy about sharing what they love about their island roots.

The Bahamas is made up of more than seven hundred islands and cays, each with their own unique identity and charisma.

We asked Bahamians what makes the island they represent so special:

Angela Gaitor – Resident

“We are so special down there, we have our own secret, like for crab and crab and rice,” she said.

When it comes to food, Bahamians have no shortage of opinions.

Martha Hanna-Smith – Resident

“What island has the best food? Of course Acklins,” she said.

Indira Green – Resident

“My favorite dish is probably conch salad and then I like flour cake…,” she said.

Cedo Macintosh – Resident

“Ise a fishman I love fry fish and pan cake [sic]…,” he said.

Even with differing opinions, they all share the common beliefs of what should make us proud to be Bahamians.
