GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – The decision to not extend the Special Economic Recovery Zone Order, also known as SERZ, not sitting well with some Grand Bahamians. Some residents are taking exception and calling the Davis administration to reconsider.

Grand Bahama business owner Darren Cooper says Grand Bahamians and Abaconians do not need any additional frustration and is calling on the government to extend the order.

The SERZ order expired on December 1st. In October, Economic Affairs Minister Michael Halkitis revealed the Davis administration had no plans on extending it and that concessions will be issued on case-by-case basis.

Member of Parliament for East Grand Bahama Kwasi Thompson called the government heartless for the move.

Minister for Grand Bahama Ginger Moxey quickly firing back saying it was the FNM that ended the SERZ order initially and it was the Davis administration who had to put the order back in place.

Grand Bahama resident John Wallace insists the decision to end SERZ was heartless.
