NASSAU, BAHAMAS – As homes near completion in the Pinecrest Subdivision some residents are concerned about flooding, and what they call a lack of consultation before the subdivision was constructed.

Berthony McDermott tells us more.

Four months after government broke ground on the Pinecrest Subdivision, residents who live directly opposite the construction site are expressing concern, saying they weren’t consulted before construction began.

However, the housing minister has said consultation with residents was done.

Recently, a video made the rounds on social media showing flooding around the homes after heavy rainfall.

Housing Minister Jobeth Coleby-Davis defended the integrity of the home construction after former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis said the project was a setup for disaster.

Ms. Ferguson has been living in the area for more than 30 years. While she hasn’t experienced increased flooding, she’s fearful that that will change once the ground is filled around the homes directly opposite hers.

The government broke ground on the subdivision in late January.

Since then, the housing minister said there was a great demand for the homes which are now sold out.

Addressing the issue of flooding, Senator Darron Pickstock tabled an approved plan for a drainage system for the area.

Meanwhile, Coleby Davis had this to say to critics ahead of Tuesday’s cabinet meeting.
