NASSAU, BAHAMAS – There are ten innovative projects that are helping to restore our earth.
We take a closer look at a project to restore coastal and marine ecosystems.

Warming sea temperatures – a key indicator of global warming. When sea temperatures rise, coral are placed in jeopardy, and marine habitats for certain species are at risk.

That’s where the restoration of coastal and marine ecosystems project in Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates comes in.

It’s one of the ten world restoration flagships receiving united nations promotion, advice, and funding.

You may notice certain similarities to the threats faced locally in The Bahamas.

To prevent the depletion of certain species locally, The Bahamian government has introduced a closed season on lobster and Nassau grouper.

This may need to be expanded to include other species if the numbers continue to decline but there is something we can do about it.

Initiatives in The Bahamas are doing just that, including Coral Vita in Grand Bahama – helping to rebuild that first line of defense.

In the end, those marine ecosystems are all interconnected.
