Royals and Rattlers Strike First in Championship Series

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Government Secondary Schools Sports Association’s (GSSA) best-of-three basketball championships tipped off Tuesday night at the Kendal G.L. Isaacs Gymnasium with the D.W. Davis Royals and C.I. Gibson Rattlers both grabbing early control of their respective series.

10th Year Seniors

The Royals junior boys are pretty much the most dominant program in the country, and are chasing their ninth consecutive title.

Mark Hanna’s squad took game one, 60-26 over the H.O. Nash Lions.

Dario Musgrove led the way with 16 points, and Milton Newbold scored 14.

The Royals’ junior girls were almost just as dominant with a 43-26 win over the Lions.

Shalika Louis scored a game high 24.

In the senior boys opener, the C.I. Gibson Rattlers outlasted the R.M. Bailey Pacers 72-66 in a chippy, back-and-forth battle that turned physical down the stretch.

The Pacers led by as many as 9 in the second quarter before an always resilient Rattlers team stormed back in the second half.

Sidney Higgs scored in a game-high 17 points and Darius Hanna scored 16.

In the senior girls division, the defending champion Lady Rattlers held off the Pacers 50-43.

The Pacers briefly took a one-point lead late, but the Rattlers responded with an 8-0 run to put the game away.

Brihanna Farrington scored 17 points and Vonnisha Rolle added 15.

Game two in all four divisions is set for Thursday back at the Kendal G.L. Isaacs Gymnasium.

Mingoes Soccer Set to Host CIU Falcons

The University of The Bahamas (UB) is set to host its first collegiate soccer competition since 2018 as the Mingoes welcome the California Intercontinental University (CIU) Men’s team for a two-match series this week.

The matches are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday and Friday at the Roscow A.L. Davies soccer fields, with free admission for fans.

UB enters the series in strong form, sitting atop the Bahamas Football Association Men’s League with an undefeated record 6-0-2.

The Mingoes have traveled to face several universities this season but now have the advantage of a home crowd.

Team captain and leading goalscorer Ronaldo Green says the focus is staying locked in.

Miller Scores 25 as Stock Continues to Rise in Santa Cruz

Franco Miller Jr. continued his breakout run in the NBA G-league with a career-high game of 25 points and 6 assists, but his Santa Cruz Warriors lost 130-110 to the Oklahoma City Blue.

It surpassed his previous career high of 21 points set last month against Salt Lake.

Over his last five games, Miller has found his rhythm, averaging 16.4 points per game while consistently contributing as a playmaker and defender in the Warriors’ backcourt.

With this recent run, his numbers have increased across the board – just over 9 points per game to go along with 3 rebounds and 3 assists per game.
