NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A special celebration Friday at the Erin H. Gilmour School for the blind and visually impaired, where students were recognized for their hard work, resilience, and academic achievements.

A melody of hope and determination set the tone for a morning of celebration at the Erin H. Gilmour School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

The student awards ceremony, held at the Salvation Army citadel, brought together a community united in support and admiration for the young minds who continue to defy expectations, something school’s principal Kevin Cartwright praised.

“ Today is a celebration of triumph, of tenacity, and of the unyielding power of belief in oneself, in education, and in the boundless potential that lives within each of our students.”

The twelve student class were recognized and awarded for academic achievement, good character and overall improvement celebrating individual milestones in a collective journey.

In attendance was President for The Bahamas commission for persons with disabilities, Nalini Bethel.

“ Being an honor roll student means that you have not only achieved much, but that you will show others that it is possible and that through hard work and dedication, they too can inspire, aspire to greater heights. You are a shining example to everyone. You inspire us all.”

Keynote speaker Jack Thompson, used symbolism to inspire, donning a hard hat and speaking as a “Contractor” ready to lay blocks of encouragement, stressing that the students’ journey is just beginning, and their role in nation-building is undeniable.

“ I am so, so proud of this school. I am so, so proud of what you’re doing, and there is a place for you in our society. Let know. Individual tell you otherwise, you have a place in the Bahamas and we’re waiting on you.”
