TURKS AND CAICOS ISLANDS – Emergency services were engaged in a search and rescue operation off the coast of Grand Turk.

The emergency services include officers of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force along with officials from the Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies and the fire department.

This operation is being supported by air support from the U.S. coastguard and customs and border protection.

A call to 911 on January 3rd reported four people crashed 17 miles southeast of the airport.

The Turks and Caicos Islands Airport Authority in a statement said a small private aircraft en route from St. Kitts to Providenciales with four souls on board had difficulties in the vicinity of Grand Turk and a search and rescue are currently underway.
