Sears: BPL Has Summer Demand Plan

Electricity consumers could get a break from summer power outages as the Minister of Works and Utilities assures consumers BPL has a plan.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Electricity consumers could get a break from summer power outages. Minister of Works and Utilities Alfred Sears assuring consumers Bahamas Power and Light Company has a contingency plan against power outages – during the hot summer months. The plans laid out as he contributed to the budget debate.

The Works and Utilities Minister, who has Responsibility for Bahamas Power and Light, addressing the fears of many residents who are hoping hotter months do not mean more frequent power outages.

Sears insists BPL will be able to generate more power than is usually consumed in the event of system failures.

Frequent power outages have become a norm during the summer months on New Providence, has high temperatures typically pose a greater strain for BPL’s power generation.

Sears said BPL will once again rely on rentals to achieve its power generation goals.

The minister adds, BPL will also see savings as a result of the new rental agreement with Sun Utilities that was signed on May 24th.
