NASSAU, BAHAMAS – It’s time to get back in the shacks but that will look different this time around due to the pandemic, with Junkanoo parades are scheduled for Independence, Boxing and New Year’s Day.

Our Sasha Lightbourne tells us more.

Junkanooers are returning to Bay Street for the usual Independence Day parade.

Minister of Culture Mario Bowleg also confirmed this week that both holiday parades – Boxing and New Years – will take place. This after a two year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

But, a return to Bay also means a return to the shacks where under normal circumstances, Covid protocols are non-existent. Junkanooers said there will have to be some restrictions within the shack, just as there are in other establishments.

They also both made an appeal for corporate sponsorship which they say now more than ever will be vital for many individuals who may wish to participate in the upcoming parades.
