ORLANDO, FLORIDA – American audiences and Bahamians in the Orlando area were treated to a taste of Bahamian music, history, and culture this weekend with back-to-back performances of the production “Music of The Bahamas.”

Backstage at the Orlando Shakes Theatre, the cast of “Music of The Bahamas” were preparing to take the stage for a second performance. Colorful costumes, singing, and dancing along with 25 cast members lit up this stage for two performances over the weekend, while depicting the history and evolution of our music.

All narrated by Marcel Sherman, who has been narrating this show since it started in 1981.

Marcel Sherman – Narrator
“It’s an evolution of who we are as a people. It’s more than just a story, it’s our history, and I think that’s what excites us, because there are a lot of persons out there who do not even know the history of the music of The Bahamas.”

One of the show’s recent additions is Candi Rigby, who sings several leads in this delightful musical.

Candi Rigby – Performer
“It’s an interesting piece of history to learn, and to actually be a part of telling the story has been good.”

Having lived on stage in front of Bahamians for so many years, “Music of The Bahamas” has now been introduced to an entirely new audience—through this invitation to perform here in Orlando.

Audience Member
“What parts about it did you like the most? The music and the history, and the spiritual aspect too.”

Audience Member
“I can tell you, coming out of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, I felt like I was back in church today. I wanted to get up and get on that stage with them.”

Audience Member
“The costumes were gorgeous, I loved them. It was really just that essence that made you want to sing and dance, and smile.”
