NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Demolition day is fast approaching for residents in the T Wash Shantytown and the question is where will all those people go?

With other demolitions, Social Services has stepped in to assist some in the unregulated communities who met certain criteria.

Assistant Director at the Department responsible for temporary shelters at unregulated communities Chereley Kelly, says it’s those persons that are in correct standing, that receive assistance.

It’s been the same cry when I’ve visited these unregulated communities from Kool Acres, to Bacardi Road, and even Opulent Drive.

Some work permit holders, are left with nowhere to go come demolition day because they struggle finding apartments.

Kelly says social services will ensure those who qualify will get the help they need.

In fact, according to the Department’s Acting Director, Charlame Fernander it’s mainly Bahamians in local shelters.
