MEXICO – Three people have died in Mexico as storm Alberto, the first named storm of the North Atlantic Hurricane season, made landfall on Thursday and has since weakened to a depression.

The fatalities include two minors.

Maximum sustained winds of 50 mph were reported, with significant rainfall also impacting Southern Texas.

Despite its weakening, the storm prompted evacuations near Houston, where 4 inches of rain fell. Governor Greg Abbott declared a disaster, anticipating severe property damage and potential loss of life.
