Strachan Misses WVU Season Opener

UNITED STATES – The 6’5″ wideout from Grand Bahama was listed on the dress list just one hour before his West Virginia Mountaineers’ season opener against Coastal Carolina this morning, meaning he did not suit up for the game.

As of yesterday, he was listed as the Mountaineers’ starting X receiver, so the news came as a shock to those who follow the team.

West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez said that Strachan sustained some injuries in fall camp and that he’s expected to miss a couple of weeks.

Strachan was supposed to play a major part in West Virginia’s spread offense as a big-bodied, fast receiver who can function as a deep threat or turn an intermediate pass into a big play with his speed.

West Virginia fared just fine in today’s warm-up match against Coastal. But come conference time, they’re going to need his elite playmaking.

Baseball

Coach Antoan Richardson and his Atlanta Braves continue to dominate the National League East.

They got a 5-2 win over their division rival, the Philadelphia Phillies.

Ronald Acuña Jr. went 3-for-5 with a couple of singles, a double, and an RBI. Mauricio Dubón also hit a home run.

Old man Chris Sale got the win on the mound, going six innings and giving up two runs on six hits.

Jazz Chisholm went 0-for-3 with a walk in his Yankees’ 3-2 loss to the San Diego Padres.

BJ Murray made his debut with the Chicago Cubs earlier this week, but he rode the pine for his team’s 6-1 win over the Miami Marlins.

Down in the minors, Kristian Robinson smacked a home run and hit a double to help his Triple-A Reno Aces beat the Sugar Land Space Cowboys 8-5.

And Sebastian Walcott went 1-for-3 with a single, and he stole his eighth base of the season. His Double-A Frisco RoughRiders fell 4-2 to the Amarillo Sod Poodles.
