NASSAU, BAHAMAS – One of the six survivors of Sunday’s crash on Long Island is in hospital being treated for a punctured lung among other injuries, according to her father. This as Aviation Minister Chester Cooper says officials intend to expedite the investigation process.

Works and Utilities Minister Alfred Sears providing an update on his daughter Nia Bethel-Sears, one of six survivors of Sunday’s crash on Long Island.

At the time he said his daughter was still at Doctors Hospital being treated for a few injuries.

While six passengers walked away from the crash, 22-year-old Aleithia Newbold, a mother did not.

According to officials, the crash happened shortly after 9am with an immediate emergency response.

Sears says he and his wife spent hours with her in hospital on Monday, adding that he and his family are grateful to simply be with her.

The survivors of the crash were given preliminary medical assessments on Long Island and were transported to New Providence where anxious relatives were waiting.

Health and Wellness Minister Dr. Michael Darville said while there were some challenges in responding to the incident, he thinks health officials responded well despite the circumstances.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Aviation Chester Cooper said officials have begun the investigation process to discover what went wrong.

He said the process could take some time.
