NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Divers and activists alike were left outraged late last month after videos went viral of a yacht anchor allegedly dragging and damaging coral reefs in southern New Providence.

At the time, local diver, Samuel Bastian called for designated moorings and no-anchor zones.

We spoke to the Director of the Department of Environmental Planning and Protection, Dr. Rhianna Neely.

As of this week, we’re told the department has begun initial discussions with the Port Department on the concept, as well as addressing heavy marine traffic in high biodiversity areas adding meetings should soon move beyond government stakeholders.
