NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Secretary-General of the United Nations Antonio Guterres shared an impassioned speech at COP29, warning world leaders that time is running out.

Guterres highlighting the effects from climate change which can be catastrophic to communities and economies thousands of miles away.

Our own Prime Minister Philip Davis also sharing similar sentiments with delegates, calling climate change’s consequences “shared tragedies” as opposed to isolated incidents.

Climate financing also a major issue Prime Minister Davis brought up during his remarks on Wednesday saying financing is still out of reach for many countries because of outdated eligibility rules based on GDP per capita.

The secretary-general had a strong position on the matter.

“COP29 must tear down the walls of climate finance,” he said “Developing countries must not leave Baku empty handed.  A deal is a must, and I’m confident it will be reached.”
