NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Triple A’s extended holiday forecast is setting a new record, even exceeding pre-pandemic numbers with the forecast that nearly 80 million Americans will be traveling over thanksgiving, almost two million more travelers than last year.

In The Bahamas, many of us travel to the U.S. for Thanksgiving and Black Friday, Triple A even predicting an uptick of 23 percent for international flights.

But what does this mean for the environment?

The exact impact of travel and tourism is highly debated, but one recent study slates their impact at as high as eight percent of global carbon emissions. 

So, if you have to travel this Thanksgiving season, consider using something like a flight carbon calculator, to help choose a route less impactful to the environment. 

And if you’re renting a vehicle while in the U.S., opt for an electric vehicle to help cut down on emissions compared to gasoline and diesel vehicles in areas where there are clean energy sources on the grid, along with zero tailpipe emissions.
