NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A group of non-unionized taxi drivers said they feel they’re being treated like criminals when soliciting passengers outside of the Nassau Cruise Port.

Taxi Driver Dale Gibson was backed by a group of about twelve other taxi drivers this morning, but he claims there are as many as 70 drivers affected by the issue.

There is an existing taxi call-up system at the Nassau Cruise Port where passengers looking for a taxi are automatically paired with a driver.

We reached out to the Nassau Cruise Port’s Director of Business Development Ed Fields for comment, who responded: “All drivers are more than welcome to participate in the system that is run within the confines of the Nassau Cruise Port in partnership with the Bahamas Taxi Cab Union.”

He added, “What happens outside of NCP boundaries is under the purview of the relevant agencies.”

We also spoke to Bahamas Taxi Cab Union President Wesley Ferguson, who told Our News that the union is happy with the current arrangement. He adds that the cruise port has been open to negotiating small changes as needed.
