TURKS & CAICOS ISLANDS – Twenty Bahamian police officers sworn in recently as constables in the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force. It’s a direct response to a recent spike in murders there over the past two months.

Deputy Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands, E Jay Saunders shedding some light on the recent deployment of those Bahamian officers.

“We have a plan in place that will allow us to address this crime, which the governor spoke about in the Speech from the Throne… a few weeks ago,” Saunders said.

The deputy premier says his government moved quickly to address the uptick in crime as they realized that these were no random acts.

Since Bahamian boots have hit the ground in Providenciales, the murders have stopped and one arrest was made.

“We’re hoping that will continue and we believe that our plan that has been activated will bring positive results from that.”

He’s assuring TCI residents they are safe and he’s thankful to the Bahamian government and police force for their support.

“The Bahamas has a force that’s trained for situations that our force wasn’t trained for. They come as a huge upgrade to what we have on the ground. We believe there will also be some knowledge transfer and in terms of policing at this level, for this level of crime.”
