NASSAU , BAHAMAS – It was a welcome fit for the queen of the 60m hurdles and the world record holder.

Charlton was greeted by representatives from the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, the BAAA, and the local track and field community at large when she returned home on Tuesday.

Still reveling in the greatest accomplishment of any women’s 60m hurdler – she reflected on winning the event at the world indoor championships for an unprecedented third consecutive time and tying her world record.

For now Charlton’s immediate attention shifted to her local philanthropy and the breaking barriers foundation, but the anticipation of the outdoor season looms large.

NIT

Deyton Albury and Romad Dean are heading to the NIT semifinals after big wins Tuesday night.

Dean and his Tulsa Golden Hurricanes held off Wichita State 83–79 to advance. He finished with two points and five rebounds.

Albury missed the second round with the flu but returned last night to finish with nine points against Saint Joseph’s in an 84–69 win.

The matchup sets up a Bahamian showdown between Tulsa and New Mexico on April 4, with a spot in the NIT championship on the line.

In the quarterfinals, Dean had a double-double, 11 points and 11 rebounds, to lead Tulsa to a 77–66 win over UNLV.

In the Women’s NIT, the run came to an end for Rhema Collins, Denika Lightbourne, and the FIU Panthers in the second round.

Collins put together another masterpiece, 25 points on 10–15 shooting from the field and nine rebounds, but her Panthers were eliminated with a 77–66 loss to Abilene Christian.

CARIFTA Track and Field Championships

A record number of qualifiers, contenders for the Austin Sealy Award, and a star-studded coaching staff—Team Bahamas has all the tools to pull off the upset this year at CARIFTA 53.

The BAAAs revealed the full roster of the 77-member Team Bahamas will field for the upcoming CARIFTA Games in St. George’s, Grenada.

Last year, the team had its best performance since 1984, and BAAAs president Drumeco Archer says this year’s team may be even better.
