NASSAU , BAHAMAS – Thousands of students filled the stands at Clifford Park, while dozens of young performers occupied the stage.

Tuesday’s youth rally functioned as both a cultural exhibition and a platform for emerging talent.

Under the direction of His Excellency Jasper Thomas, politicians took part in an impromptu performance as thousands of students, educators, parents and spectators anticipated the King’s arrival.

The display of youth and culture featured pop bands, dancers, various schools and youth organizations, with performers demonstrating exceptional artistry and etching themselves into the global historical record.

Vocalist for the Bahamas National Children’s Choir Akai Pierre and vocalist for the TDC Summer Sounds Pop Band Cayley Mwesygye say it all feels surreal.

“I felt excited to see the King finally, and I even imagined meeting the King in person.”

“Because I’ve never been in a space where, or like a situation where, like, performing in front of the King.”

For entertainer Karrington McKenzie, the occasion held both historical and sentimental significance.

According to him, this represented the first time in several years that he and his uncle, Dillion “DMac” McKenzie, shared a stage.

“Being able to touch the stage together, performing songs from my dad, the late Kevin McKenzie, it’s amazing.”

He says witnessing the next generation of Bahamian entertainers demonstrate their capabilities was a source of great pride.

“To see them be able to take this stage in front of all these people, on this platform, on this level, words—we can’t find the words.”
