GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – After a five-year closure, Mclean’s Town Primary School in East End, Grand Bahama finally welcomed students back last week.

Children of the Mcleans Town and East End community now able to return to the school campus they know and love.

But getting to this moment hasn’t been a walk in the park.

The school faced major repairs after the devastating impact of monster storm Dorian. And now as the school celebrates its reopening, there’s a familiar face leading the charge.

Principal Simone Butler is not just any leader. She began her teaching career right in this community.

She reflects on the reopening saying it’s a thrilling milestone for the students, marking a new chapter and a fresh start.

Principal Butler’s pride in her new school shared by her dedicated teachers. Rubyanne Russell is one of them.

As for working with the contractor?

We also discovered this week that the school’s newly renovated campus has welcomed an unexpected addition, the Department of Meteorology. Butler tells us extra space on the campus was utilized to benefit the community.

Currently, the school has a populatIon of 15 students but Principal Butler anticipates that number will soon rise.

And to mark this exciting new chapter, she says the school has embraced the theme “a new creation.”

And despite past devastation, Principal Butler says the reopening of Mclean’s Town Primary School, proudly flying “the captains” banner, is a powerful testament to the community’s resilience and strength.
