NASSAU, BAHAMAS – With hurricane season less than a month away, local and international partners have already begun work.

This C130 aircraft does the impossible, flying into extreme rain and winds to provide valuable data.

Acting Director for The Bahamas Department of Meteorology Jeffery Simmons says it is international partnerships like this are key.

The aircraft, piloted by The United States Air Force has been in service for many years, flying through nearly 100 storms up to date.

Another entity that uses this data is The National Hurricane Center. They are responsible for the naming of storms as well as advising meteorologists in different countries.

A tour of the plane shows a world of different machinery, instruments, equipment and cables. One of the flight meteorologists makes sense of all of it.
