NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Gang violence continues to be an issue that plagues our community.

Many question what’s behind our young men’s actions, a local community leader says the answer lies in something everyone seeks.

Some say happiness can only lie in acceptance, and for many of the country’s youth, this is a grim reality.

According to crime stats released by The Royal Bahamas Police Force, gang retaliation was one of the main motives for 76% of homicides in the country last year.

2023 has been no different, with many slain being connected to gang activity.

Crime Consultant Dr. Caros Reid, says the root cause lies in inclusion.

Reid says the family structure has failed and it’s up to leaders to make the difference.
