SPAIN – Thousands of people dressed as Santa Claus took over the streets of Madrid this weekend, more than 10,000 runners joined the city’s annual Red Cross charity race.

Organisers say children dressed as elves also ran the 4.5 kilometre route through the city centre.

Participants told reporters the event was a chance to spread good vibes before Christmas, while others said the Santa costumes made for a fun and “Awesome” finish.

The Christmas holiday, marking the birth of Jesus Christ, is traditionally celebrated from December 24 through the 26.
