NASSAU, BAHAMAS – On this day in Bahamian history, in 1990 ‐ the Exuma International Airport in Moss Town was officially opened. This plaque at the entrance of the facility, commemorating the occasion.

In 2007 – New Zealander William Trubridge set the world freediving record at Dean’s Blue Hole in Long island.

The Historical Society notes Truberidge reached a depth of 82 meters in three minutes nine seconds, without the assistance of fins, ropes or weight belts. 

Dean’s Blue Hole is the second deepest known saltwater blue hole in the world.

Finally on this day in 2017, parliament was dissolved by then Prime Minister Perry Christie. 

Then Police Commissioner Ellison Greensalde acting in the capacity of provost marshall made the proclamation. 

Moments after the proclamation, then Prime Minister Christie announced general elections were to take place a month later on May 10th 2017. 

Christie and the Progressive Liberal Party lost the election in a landslide victory for the Free National movement and its then leader Dr. Hubert Minnis.
