NASSAU, BAHAMAS – On this day in Bahamian history, in 1933 Rev. Philip Rahming, author of the Bahamian pledge of allegiance and “God bless our sunny clime,” was born in Fox Hill.

Then in 1998 Alfred de Marigny, who was once tried and acquitted for the unsolved 1943 murder of Sir Harry Oakes, passed away in Houston at 87.

In 2013 Bahamians voted against regulating web shop gaming and establishing a national lottery in a referendum.

January 28th, 2019 fire destroyed four buildings at princess Cays Resort on South Eleuthera. No injuries were reported.

In 2020 a 7.7 earthquake near Jamaica shook the region, including the Bahamas. No tsunami warnings were issued, but some buildings were evacuated.

And in 2022 Rev. Dr. Charles w. Saunders, a prominent Baptist leader and former police service commission chairman, passed away.

He was 91.
