NASSAU, BAHAMAS – On this day in Bahamian history, on the 15th of June 1914 – William Allardyce became governor of the Bahama islands. He served from 1914 – 1920.

Then in 2013, students in the graduating class of St. John’s College learned they would not be allowed will walk following what Anglican Bishop Laish Boyd deemed inappropriate behavior at a school function the week prior. The behavior was caught on camera.

Then in 2015, one week after then Marco City MP Greg Moss resigned from the Progressive Liberal Party Bamboo Town MP Renward Wells revealed he also considered quitting the party. Wells said he fully supported Moss’ decision and that as for him, anything was possible.

Then fast forward to 2016 – following a failed gender equality constitutional referendum President of the Court of Appeal Dame Anita Alan delivered the keynote at the 8th Annual Eugene Dupuch Distinguished Lecture, where she called for more tolerance when examining the human rights issue of our time. She spoke specifically to the issue of same sex and civil unions and said the option remained opened despite the failed referendum.

And finally in 2021 – Mangrove Key Central and South Andros Member of Parliament Picewell Forbes rested his head on his desk in the House of Assembly sobbing as he made his final contribution to a budget debate. The three-time MP for the area has previously said he will not be seeking re-election. As he wrapped up his presentation, Forbes thanked those who supported him and got a standing ovation before taking his seat.
