TRINIDAD & TOBAGO – Kamla Persad-Bissessar is set to return as Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister after her United National Congress claimed victory in Monday’s snap election.

Preliminary results show the UNC winning 25 of 41 seats, enough to unseat Stuart Young, who had taken over in March without an election after former PM Keith Rowley stepped down.

CARICOM Chair and Barbados PM Mia Mottley congratulated Persad-Bissessar on the peaceful vote, along with leaders from Dominica and Grenada.

This marks her second term, after previously serving from 2010 to 2015.
