NASSAU , BAHAMAS – Another night of gun violence has left two families grieving and police searching for answers in two separate homicide investigations.

The first shooting occurred on Old Cedar Way, where a 37-year-old man was shot inside his home after masked gunmen allegedly opened fire through a window.

The suspects fled the scene, while the victim was rushed to hospital, and he later died from his injuries around eleven o’clock that night.

Then in another incident, at approximately eleven-thirty p.m., ShotSpotter technology detected gunfire in the area of Comfort Street.

Officers responded and discovered a 25-year-old man unresponsive, dressed in black and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Royal Bahamas Police Force Chief Superintendent Leonard Ramsey outlined what investigators believe happened.

“Our investigation so far revealed that the deceased was in the area of the intersection of Flint and Comfort Street when the occupants of a black vehicle approached and discharged a weapon in his direction. The deceased, in an attempt to evade his attackers, fled north on Comfort Street, where he collapsed and succumbed to his injuries.”

With another two lives lost to gun violence, Ramsey is making this appeal.

“We are asking members of this community who have any information to assist us in advancing this investigation to come forward. And also, we are sending a clarion call to our young men to please try to find more amicable ways of settling their differences, because violence is never the right thing to do.”

Ramsey also provided an update on the police force’s ongoing efforts to remove illegal firearms and ammunition from the streets of New Providence.

Leonard Ramsey – Chief Superintendent, RBPF

“The Royal Bahamas Police Force remains resolute in the discharge of our duties. Our operational team, Mobile Division and Drug Enforcement continue to execute warrants across New Providence. We continue to conduct rigorous stop-and-search operations to remove firearms from our streets. Today, we have moved over two hundred firearms and about four thousand rounds of ammunition off our streets. We remain results-driven, and we are asking members of the public, if they know where any illegal firearms are, to please reach out to us so we can remove these firearms from our streets and deal with those persons who possess them. So you can help us in creating safer communities.”
