U.S. Bahamas Partnership Continues

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Assistant Secretary of State for the Western Hemisphere wrapping up a two-day fact-finding trip to the nation’s capital this morning. The diplomat today weighing in on the growing influence of China in The Bahamas.

The United States Government will not ask countries to choose, according to Assistant Secretary of State For The Western Hemisphere, Brian Nichols, noting the growing influence of China in The Bahamas.

Nichols says The Bahamas is a trusted and valued partner across a range of issues, including international peace & security and human rights and migration.

While on island, Nichols visited the Coral Harbour Defence Force Base where the U.S. has donated millions of worth of equipment including ships, radars and computers.

He says both countries continue to partner to address the root cause of migration for all countries within the hemisphere.

When asked if there were any concerns regarding the increased number of persons attempting migration from Haiti, through The Bahamas to the United States, Nichols said the situation in Haiti remains difficult.
