UNITED STATES – The U.S. Coast Guard says it has seized more than 75,000 pounds of illegal drugs this summer from boats far out to sea in the Pacific and Caribbean, which the service called its largest-ever haul worth nearly half a billion dollars.

The drugs, mostly cocaine, with some marijuana, were seized from 19 vessels across the Pacific and Caribbean.

The coast guard says dozens of suspected traffickers were detained, and the haul was offloaded at Port Everglades, Florida, on Monday.

The Trump administration says the record-breaking bust underscores the need for a stronger Cooast Guard .
