UNITED STATES – The United States unveiled a new proposal requiring tourists from dozens of countries, including the UK,  to provide five years of social media history to enter the country.

The rule would affect travelers eligible for the 90-day visa waiver program using the ESTA system… and is part of President Donald Trump’s broader efforts to tighten U.S. borders in the name of national security.

The proposal also calls for past phone numbers, email addresses, and family information to be submitted, and says social media accounts must be public for screening purposes.

Digital rights advocates warn the move could harm privacy and civil liberties.
