JAMAICA – The United Nations is boosting support for Jamaica’s Hurricane Melissa recovery, confirming another $4M in emergency funding.

UN Resident Coordinator Dennis Zulu announced the allocation, saying the UN has stood firmly with Jamaica since the storm decimated communities in the west.

The funding comes from the UN Central Emergency Response Fund, and will help four agencies expand food aid, safe water, health support, and shelter assistance.

Mr. Zulu says more than 145,000 Jamaicans have already received help, and this new support is a clear demonstration of global solidarity.

The agencies expect to reach hundreds of thousands more in the weeks ahead as Jamaica shifts from relief to recovery.
