BEIRUT – The United Nations has labeled the Israeli strike in Beirut, killing Hamas leader Saleh Al-Arouri, as “extremely worrying”.

The strike occurred in a Hezbollah stronghold, with six casualties reported. Israel’s military declined to comment on foreign media reports.

UN Associate Spokesperson Florencia Soto Nino expressed deep concern, emphasizing the broader regional risks highlighted by Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Arouri was deputy head of Hamas’s and a founder of its military wing, the Qassam Brigades, which carried out a deadly assault in Israel on Oct. 7.
