HAITI – The United Nations is withdrawing non-essential personnel from Haiti due to a volatile security situation there.

The UN is not leaving Haiti and the staff who carry out life-saving activities will remain to continue operations, says a U.N. spokesperson.

Since February 29, multiple armed gangs in Haiti have launched attacks on public facilities in the capital Port-Au-Prince, demanding the resignation of former Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry.

Henry announced his resignation late Monday after regional leaders met in Jamaica to discuss a political transition in Haiti.
