NASSAU, BAHAMAS – At least twelve people are dead after a UPS cargo plane crashed while taking off from Louisville’s Muhammad Ali International Airport.

The MD-11 aircraft was carrying thousands of gallons of fuel on its way to Hawaii.

The freighter exploded shortly after departure, igniting a massive fire that engulfed nearby businesses and sent black smoke into the sky.

The governor says more than a dozen others were hurt, and several people remain unaccounted for.

Federal investigators are now on the scene, trying to determine what went wrong.
