VENEZUELA – Supporters of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro took to the streets of Caracas Tuesday, marching alongside Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello in what the ruling socialist party called a “civic-military-police mobilization” to defend the national flag and the country’s sovereignty.

The show of force came just one day after Washington designated Venezuela’s Cartel de Los Soles as a foreign terrorist organization, imposing new terrorism-related sanctions on the group it says includes Maduro and senior officials.

Venezuela’s government slammed the move as “ridiculous,” accusing the U.S. of trying to control its oil and gas resources.
