NASSAU, BAHAMAS – VJ Edgecombe, who is from Bimini, was back home two weekends ago playing in the Hoopfest In Paradise tournament where he led his team to 2-0.

He recently narrowed his university choices down to his top three, announcing them on Thursday via his social media accounts – Baylor University, Duke University and the University of Kentucky – all D1 Universities with excellent basketball programs.

VJ received offers from those as well as Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, University of California, Penn State, University of Florida, Florida State University, University of Miami, University of Washington and the NBA G-League.

I had the opportunity to ask VJ about his ultimate goal when he was home.

Swimming

Emmanuel Gadson will be going to Cornell University soon.

If you’re unfamiliar with Emmanuel, he is also one of the top swimmers in the country.

Gadson has been part of several national teams including this year’s 2023 CARIFTA Swim Team as well as this year’s Pan Am Games team.

Anti-Doping Legislation

The legislation is pivotal in ensuring The Bahamas’ commitment to the global fight against doping in sports and aligns the country with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

WADA and the Bahamas Anti-Doping Commission or BADC,  play a crucial role in upholding the principles of fair play and clean competition within our borders.

Sports Director Kelsie Johnson-Sills says without the legislation hosting events, such as CARIFTA swimming and the World Relays, would be in jeopardy.
