UNITED STATES – Sebastian Walcott continues to make his mark on baseball’s prospect landscape.

MLB Pipeline released its latest positional rankings this week, and the Texas Rangers’ top prospect checked in at No. 6 among the top shortstops in minor league baseball.

Walcott did not just crack the top 10. He stood out in a big way, tying for the best power grade and arm strength grade among all players on the list, according to MLB Pipeline’s scouting evaluations.

On the field last season, Walcott put together an impressive all-around campaign in Double-A with the Frisco RoughRiders.

The 19-year-old hit .255 with 13 home runs, 59 RBIs and 32 stolen bases, and earned a second invite to the MLB Futures All-Star Game.

A year earlier, as one of the youngest everyday players in the South Atlantic League, Walcott finished with a .261 batting average, ranking among the league leaders in triples, extra-base hits and total bases, before earning a late-season promotion to Double-A.

The Rangers open spring training Feb. 20 in Surprise, Arizona.

Mingoes Fall to Panthers in Straight Sets

The University of The Bahamas Mingoes women’s volleyball team returned to action with a full squad but came up short against the defending champions.

In New Providence Volleyball Association play, the Mingoes fell to the Panthers in straight sets, 25-10, 25-18, 25-19.

UB got off to a slow start in the opening set, falling into an early 12-4 hole and never recovered.

The second set was more competitive. UB tied the score at five points apiece and later trailed 16-15. However, the Panthers pulled away down the stretch, closing the set on a strong run to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Mingoes again faced an early deficit in the third set, trailing 8-1, and again rallied but fell just short.

Middle blocker Garinique Hollingsworth led the Mingoes in scoring, while Patrice Ferguson and Samaya Tucker contributed four points each.

The Panthers were led by Sari Albury, who finished with a match-high nine points.
