WORLDWIDE – Walmart is recalling hundreds of thousands of water bottles after reports of serious injuries, including permanent vision loss, linked to bottle caps popping off aggressively. While Walmart doesn’t operate in The Bahamas, the product is widely available online and could easily have made its way into local households. Tonight, we look at what to look out for and what to do if you have one.

It’s a sleek, stainless steel bottle—and the new topic of a nationwide recall in the United States.

Walmart is pulling over 800,000 of these Ozark Trail 64-ounce insulated water bottles from its shelves after some people reported the black lid forcefully ejected and, in some cases, hit them in the face.

According to international media outlets, at least two people have suffered permanent vision loss, with the cap reportedly popping off under pressure, especially if the bottle contained liquids like juice or milk.

It doesn’t seem as if the product is sold at major stores in The Bahamas, but the product is available online and may have been brought in through shipping companies or purchased by locals while traveling. The bottles were first made available in 2017 and are sold for about $15.

Walmart says the impacted model is number 83-662. The model number appears only on the original packaging, not the bottle itself.

If you or someone you know owns one of these bottles, officials are urging customers to stop using it immediately. You can contact Walmart or visit their website to arrange a full refund.
