What We Know About the Victims Aboard Small Plane That Crashed Off North Andros

THE BAHAMAS – It’s been a heartbreaking 48 hours for the Lamar and Sosa family, as four of their loved ones are dead after the aircraft they were traveling in crashed in waters off Andros on Monday morning.

The plane, a Piper PA-34, United States registration N212ML, left Great Harbour Cay in the Berry Islands en route to Miami when it disappeared from radar around 10 a.m.

On Wednesday, family members recovered their bodies using a private boat.

Family members identified them as 80-year-old Mario Lamar, his 79-year-old wife, Lili Lamar, and their two grandchildren, Sofi and Christian Sosa, aged 28 and 22.

While we know their names, what are their stories?

From all accounts, Mario Lamar was an experienced pilot.

Social media tributes and family statements say he’d been flying for more than 40 years.

He had taken his family to the Berry Islands for the American Labor Day holiday weekend.

His wife, Lili, described the Berry Islands as a second home.

She and her husband had frequently travelled to the islands in the past.

Their grandchildren, Sofi and Christian, were both college graduates.

Sofia was a medical clinician who worked at a paediatric centre in Florida. Her co-workers described her as compassionate, professional, and committed to her patients.

Her brother Christian was a sports media contributor to The Basement Sports Network. In an X post, one of his co-workers said they had known each other since they were teenagers and enjoyed talking sports throughout the years.
