NASSAU, BAHAMAS – CARICOM countries share similarities and challenges. Geographically, they are all close to major markets in North and South America.

Most have had to make the transition from agriculture or mining to a service-driven economy, especially tourism and financial services.

On the other hand, they must overcome the challenges of frequent natural disasters, in addition to small size with a shared lack of economies of scale and vulnerability to external shocks.

There are 15 member states:

  • Antigua and Barbuda
  • The Bahamas
  • Barbados
  • Belize
  • Dominica
  • Grenada
  • Guyana
  • Haiti
  • Jamaica
  • Monserrat
  • St. Lucia
  • St. Kitts and Nevis
  • St. Vincent and the Grenadines
  • Suriname
  • Trinidad and Tobago

There are also five associate members:

  • Anguilla
  • Bermuda
  • British Virgin Islands
  • Cayman Islands
  • Turks and Caicos Islands

All members subscribe to the community’s principles outlined in the revised Treaty of Chaguaramas (2002).
