Will AI Impact The Local Modeling Industry?

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Artificial intelligence is a hot topic across various industries, with employees fearing they may be replaced by AI and the entertainment industry is not excluded from this global concern. 

Recently a local company debuted their AI generated models which raised the question at home, how will this impact local talent.

“Models are going to lose out on the jobs that they would have gotten because ai models are getting them”

A harsh, yet growing reality, currently stirring conversations within the entertainment industry. 

In the united states the screen actors guild–american federation of television and radio artists recently condemned the use of an ai generated actress dubbed tilly norwood. 

In a statement the union agrued that creativity is, and should remain, human-centered. 

The issue has now found itself to our shores in the modeling industry with major companies utilizing the technology for ad campaigns. 

In the bahamas there is no union for local models  that can collectively address this concern.

However, there is no need for industrial action just yet, head of production at the new performing arts school, stephanie nihon wieghs in.

“I don’t see it impacting human models completely i can see that print modeling can be impacted because the aesthetic of the brand it can easily manipulate and make it look how they want to look but the truth is designers and the way the clothes hang on the body will always have to be shown on human form.”

“if you look at korea and how they’ve exported their culture how they’ve exported the squid games how they’ve exported kpop even their skincare their products they’re a very different culture than a lot of the world and they have found a way to export their culture be very wildly embrace and i think the bahamas has a ton to offer  “
