NASSAU, THE BAHAMAS – There are thousands of business owners and entrepreneurs across the country, building businesses and creating opportunities.

For Trevor Williams, that business is a drinking water production company on Grand Bahama.

Earlier this week, we highlighted the sustainability benefits of his company, Out Island Water.

Williams says the idea was born out of the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic.

” Most people know me from Outback Steakhouse, where I was the operations manager for 13 years after Covid and what sort of start happening I sorta drifted into entrepreneurship because you know the restaurant business was not the same after Covid, so I needed to do something that would’ve been I guess recession and pandemic proof and water company on the island is what I came up with and so far it’s going pretty good “

But as with any business, there are challenges – something Williams says he’s had to navigate through these past few years.

“A lot of people look at entrepreneurship as being glamorous but if you’re not tune into your market to be able to understand, if you don’t be in the day-to-day understanding, you know the day-to-day operations to keep your business running because things are gonna break. Things are gonna breakdown. You’re gonna have challenges like that, but you have to be on the ground in your business every day to understand those scenes to be able to know how to work through those things.”

And for those considering starting a business or taking their existing business to the next level, Williams has this bit of this advice.

“It’s good to have an idea, but you have to be able to take that idea. Listen to the market and to be able to expand that and also to because the day-to-day understanding the day-to-day of your business is important because like I said things breakdown, but the thing is, you’re gonna have challenges, but it’s working to challenges would give you the knowledge to be able to make your business successful. It doesn’t just happen in one day this is a process a journey that you have to go through get to the point whereas the business I profitable and then you can be able to say something you know not necessarily make it but at least I’m setting myself up to survive into the future“
