NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A thrilling milestone for youth soccer in The Bahamas, as two schools have clinched the inaugural national titles in the New Providence Junior High School Soccer Championships.

In the Junior Girls’ final, Windsor School showcased the dominance they’ve displayed all season long with a commanding 4–0 win over the St. Andrew’s Hurricanes.

Multiple-sport star Emma Johnston delivered an MVP performance, opening the scoring for her team. Emma Haller netted two goals, and Isabelle Kennedy sealed the deal with the fourth.

Meanwhile, in the Junior Boys’ division, the Lyford Cay Dragons emerged victorious in a closely contested match, edging out the Anatol Rodgers Timberwolves 4–3.

Dirk Simmons delivered an MVP-worthy performance for the Dragons, scoring a hat trick.

The back-and-forth battle was tied 2–2 at halftime, before Simmons scored the go-ahead goal late in the second half.

Attention now shifts to the Seniors, who hosted their semifinal matches this afternoon. We’ll have full details on who will take the pitch in tomorrow’s final.

EQUESTRIAN BAHAMAS NAMES TEAM HEADED FOR FRANCE

The Bahamas is heading back to the world stage in equestrian.

Four of the nation’s top junior riders have been selected to represent Team Bahamas at the FFE World Clubs Mondiale Tournament this July in Lamotte-Beuvron, France.

This year’s team features Sienna Jones, Marlo Pinder, Alana Pyfrom, and Connor Watkins.

They’ll look to build on the momentum of last year’s historic run, when The Bahamas made its debut at the tournament and captured a bronze medal.

That 2024 squad included Katerina Coello, Emma Johnston, Ella Saidi, and Sienna Tinker, as they made a powerful statement in the global show jumping arena.

BAHAMIANS ADVANCE AT NCAA PRELIMS

In NCAA Track and Field action, Bahamian athletes are competing in the regional preliminary rounds, aiming to advance to the finals of the Division I Outdoor Championships.

At the West Prelims, it took just one throw for Nebraska’s Keyshawn Strachan to secure his spot in the javelin final at the NCAA Championships.

On his opening attempt, Strachan recorded a leading throw of 76.97 meters, and now heads into the final looking to improve on last year’s fifth-place finish. He currently holds a season’s best of 81.01m, the second-leading mark in the NCAA.

Also at the West Prelims, DePaul University’s Demetrius Rolle advanced to Friday’s quarterfinals of the 100m. Rolle finished seventh in his heat and 17th overall with a time of 10.39 seconds. He’ll need a top 12 finish on Friday to advance to the NCAA Final.

At the East Prelims, Louisiana Tech’s Oscar Smith clocked the top time headed into the quarterfinals of the 110m hurdles. He won his first-round heat in a personal best of 13.52 seconds and returns Friday with a shot to qualify for the final. Like Rolle, he’ll need to place in the top 12.

The NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Championships will be hosted June 11–14 at the University of Oregon.
